12 Month Checkup

Yesterday we went for our 12month checkup, here are her stats:
  • weight: 21.11lbs (60-70%)
  • height: 31in (90-95%)

In one year, Adelyn has gained 13.15lbs and grown 9.5inches. She also got her MMR, Hep A and Chicken Pox vaccinations. Dr. Thompson told me that there is no 'off limit' food (ie, peanuts, honey, etc), and now that she can have whole fat cow's milk, I can start to wean. It is a bitter sweet thought. On the one hand, I am ready to have my body be my own again, it is just time; but on the other, she isn't my baby girl anymore and she doesnt need me in that way. So each week we are to start replacing one nursing a day with milk from a sippy cup until eventually I decide to stop completely. I guess we will wait and see how long it takes for her to not need me and for me to not need her. Will update on that progress later....

She is also now old enough to switch to a forward facing car seat. We will do that this weekend, when Paul has time. I know she will absolutely love being able to face out and see everything! I cant wait, as I am sure this will make the longer car trips much more tolerable :)

Look Out World, I'm Turning 1!

We had a fantastic, fun-filled birthday for Adelyn this weekend. The weather could not have cooperated better! We had a little birthday party for the not-so-baby girl on Sea Island at Mama Alice and Daddy Joe's house. It was mostly family with a few close friends, and Adelyn thoroughly enjoyed herself! She got some great presents, enjoyed some delicious icing (with a small amount of cake) and played hard all afternoon. We really appreciate Mama Alice and Daddy Joe letting us use their house, and for the help and hard work from everyone else who contributed to making it such a wonderful day!

I want cake!

YAY!

It is amazing to think how far we have come in just one year....

  • "NO"- She understands, though does not always listen to, the word 'no'. A perfect example- she now knows exactly how to stand up and turn the water on in the bathtub. As soon as I turn the water off, she stands up and tries to turn it back on (she enjoys putting her face under the running water). I say 'no' and turn it off. She knows she isnt supposed to do it, but she giggles uncontrollably every time she turns it on and i turn it off saying 'no'.

  • Stairs- Adelyn is an expert stair climber now. I find it hilarious that anytime we go to a house with stairs, it is the first place she goes to play because we dont have any. She is not sure how to get down yet- since she has no fear of gravity, she still attempts to go face first off of everything (another story entirely). When Nana said NO, she did stop going down, though. Maybe we are learning. :)

  • We are trying to teach her 'feet first to the floor'. It is not going well at the moment. haha!

  • Outside- Now that the weather is getting nicer, we let Adelyn play on our deck. She loves it! Anytime she hears someone open the door she crawls as quickly as she can to get outside. If the door closes before she gets over there, she starts crying until she can get out (or we take her to her toys to get her mind off of the deck).

  • I am not certain why, but she LOVES playing in the bathroom. I find it quite gross. Her new thing is to unravel all of the toilet paper...

Our 12 month check up is tomorrow. I will be very interested to see how much she has grown in the past three months- I think she will be at least 31 inches and 20lb. We will see if I am right!

Valentine's Day

By this time today, last year, all hopes had been dashed that Adelyn would be born before, or on, her due date. Little did I know that 4 days and a difficult 20+ hours later, we would have such a sweet baby girl. So, to get a little mushy, Adelyn, I love you- and thank you for not being born on Valentine's Day!
