Walking and Falling: Life as We Know It
I don't know if it was the new shoes or ultra competitiveness at daycare, but whatever the reason, Adelyn began really walking on Friday and has not looked back. She went from going around the living room/kitchen to up and down the hallway, into the bedroom to all over restaurants, the back yard, the farmers market, you name it. We have escaped with minor 'sit downs' until nap time today. I lay her down, like usual, and she is talking to herself. I run across the street to speak with the neighbors while she is napping, leaving Paul reading the newspaper on the couch. I come back about a half hour later only to find little missy playing in Buck's food bowl. Very short nap? No, Paul informs me that he was sitting at the computer and he heard a loud bang followed by (loud) crying. He goes into the bedroom to find her sitting on the floor... needless to say nap time still has not occurred and all items even remotely close to the edge of the crib that could have been used as a standing prop have been removed. I realize this accident did not really happen while she was walking, but I am lumping it into her new adventersome attitude :)

Mountains, 16 months and more.....
Hello everyone! I did not realize how long it had been since I posted until my brother reminded me.... sorry for those who check back often :)
Anyways, June has been a fairly busy month for us. We just got back from a great extended weekend trip to my parents house in the mountains of Jefferson, NC with Gram, Papee, Uncle Ben and Aunt Rebecca; sadly Aunt Anna was working in Oregon and could not come. We hiked, canoed, played games and went to a bluegrass music festival. It was definitely a lot of fun! Adelyn thoroughly enjoyed her first trip to the mountains and we cant wait to go back. Here are a few pictures from the trip....

Sunday was fathers day as well as Adelyn's 16mo birthday. She is still tottering on the verge of walking. She will occasionally take a few steps in the house, on the beach, in the park or at daycare. Unless she is holding onto a finger of some willing person, she still does not seem too interested. I am definitely not pushing it yet. While she still isnt saying any words yet, she is definitely learning a lot. We often play the "where is Adelyn's/mommy's ..." game, so far she can point out her head, hair, belly button, nose, eyes, teeth, mouth, cheeks and ears. She is always very proud of herself when she gets something right! She is also a big fan of shoes- she knows they go on her feet and she always helps me put mine on or will hand me hers and give me her foot to help her. She then promptly takes them off and does it all over again. She also loves to blow kisses now instead of waving bye-bye. At the grocery store today she put her hand to my mouth and had me blow a kiss to the cashier and then did the same for herself. She also LOVES Sesame Street and Dinosaur Train (a PBS cartoon that comes on just before Sesame St.). If I start singing the theme song to either of those shows, she immediately turns towards the TV to see if they are on.
I promise my next update wont be too far off! Until then.....

Library Day
The Fernandina Beach library has a tots and toddlers reading group every Wednesday starting at 10:30am. I took Adelyn this morning thinking that she would enjoy herself since she loves reading now (or just flipping the pages of the same book over and over again....). There were 10 or so kids there ranging from 15ish months- 5+ yrs old. I was not exactly sure what to expect so Adelyn and I took our seats in the circle and waited for the fun to begin. We started by singing several songs ('The Wheels on the Bus'; 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'; 'The Hokey Pokey'; 'Old McDonald' as well as a few which I had never heard). We read two stories, 'The Dinosaur Train' and 'The Goodnight Train' (note the theme) and then played with playdough and blocks. Adelyn had a blast and I know that this will be a new tradition we will do every week.
