Emotional Rollercoaster

This past weekend was an emotional roller coaster for me. A couple of weeks ago we found out that my grandparents house, which my grandfather built in the early 1950s, finally sold after being on the market for 18mos. We had 2 weeks to clean it out, so my mom and I went down there Friday afternoon to clean out some belongings and take some furniture we all wanted back up to Brunswick. The moving process itself was relatively easy and we were packed by Saturday around noon. The thought of never going back to that house, however, is something entirely different. My mom and her siblings were raised there, we, as grandchildren, have our own memories in every nook and cranny. It was very difficult driving up 1041 sunset drive knowing that it was the last time we would pull in and to see familiar orange tree out front of a blue concrete/brick house with a half painted chimney. In actuality, it has not been the same since my grandfather passed away 6 years ago yesterday, and we havent had the familiar, jovial man 'running' out the kitchen door to greet us with a big kiss. Perhaps it was fitting that this was the weekend we ended up choosing. A good bye to a chapter of our lives. It is just a house, and the memories will always be there, but the finality with which it occurred is very saddening. And this is my point of view, I dont know how my mom and her siblings are dealing with this, saying good bye to their childhood home....

Mom and I initally thought we would stay until Sunday; however, after the movers had loaded the uhaul, we decided that it would be best to go ahead and get on the road. After going through more pictures and letters, mom did a final walk through and we left around 1 or so. The good thing about this is that I was able to meet up with Paul and Adelyn, who is feeling much better, on Sea Island to help celebrate Mama Alice's 84th birthday! We had a lovely dinner with Nana, PopPop, Mama Alice, Daddy Joe and Aunt Cissy and Uncle Bill.

In other news, Adelyn is now capable of climbing out of her crib. Paul informed me that he woke up saturday morning to a loud THUD followed by crying. This morning I went in to get Adelyn out of bed and she had her leg on the crib rail and was pulling herself up.... I will most likely order rails to convert her crib into a big girl todler bed in the VERY near future! She really is growin up.

Sick baby girl

I picked Adelyn up from school yesterday and her teachers told me that she was a little fussy and generally out of character, but she did eat. She felt hot when we got home so I gave her a bit of tylenol and put her down for her nap. Other than being a little clingy, she seemed to be doing better..... until dinner time. She really did not eat much and all of a sudden her eyes started glazing over and it looked as if she were going to pass out in her chair. We took her temp, 101.6, and I gave her some more tylenol and we immediately put her in a cool (bubble) bath. She seemed to be doing much better and did not fight bed time at all.
She woke up this morning still feeling warm (100.5 or so) and really didnt eat too much breakfast. We watched SuperWhy, Dinosaur train and part of sesame st before I took her to the library for story time and to the park. I could tell she still wasnt 100% when we got to the park because all she wanted to do was swing. She didnt eat any lunch when we got home. I have since called Dr. Thompson and we have an appointment tomorrow to make sure she doesnt have an ear infection.
I just hope that she gets to feeling better soon because it breaks my heart seeing her so lethargic.

Happy Birthday Daddy~

Last wednesday was Paul's 40th birthday! Yes, 40. Crazy! We had a wonderful time helping him celebrate- Adelyn couldn't wait to put on the birthday hat and dig in to the key lime pie! Every night since we brought her home from Nana and PopPops she has asked for ice cream, and now, cake. - Dead give away, Nana and PopPop. :)
It is amazing to me how quickly she picks up new words now. She has even started grouping 2-3 together at times (her favorite being bubble bath and me/I want ____). It is hard to believe that in a few short weeks we will be celebrating her SECOND birthday! Appropriately enough, we have decided to make it a crayon/coloring/bubble-esq themed party, to incorporate her latest favorite things....

Bring on 2012!

Happy New Year!!! We had a wonderful celebration in Charlotte with Paul's family. We were very excited to see Adelyn after she spent the rest of the week with Nana, PopPop, and her cousins, Clare and Alix. She came back talking A LOT! She is getting to be such a big girl- learning new words daily. Widespread Panic put on a great show and we were excited to be able to see them play. We had a great new years meal- full with collards, black eyed peas and all the other traditional fixin's. Yummy!

We are very excited to see what 2012 brings.... lots to look forward to, including Adelyn's 2nd birthday in just 6 short weeks (yikes!!).
