2 Year Wellness Check

I took Adelyn to see Dr. Thompson yesterday for her 2 yr wellness visit. We learned that she is a very happy, healthy, not-so-baby, little girl. Here are here stats:
  • Height: 36 1/2 in; +95%
  • Weight: 30 1/2 lbs; 90-95%
  • Head: 90% (didnt get the actual number)
Dr. Thompson is very pleased with her development! She is able to string 2-3 words together regularly (thanks mommy, bye buck, night night everybody, what's this, etc). She tee tee'd on the big girl potty yesterday morning, as well. I am not taking that as a sign to start full on potty training yet, but Dr. Thompson did tell me to go ahead and get some books to read to her and maybe a dvd for her to watch; I am not supposed to overload her, but I need to show her that other children do it too. I am also ordering a toddler bed rail this week to transition her from her crib to a big girl bed. All in all Paul and I appear to know what we are doing :)

Adelyn's 2nd Birthday

Adelyn is officially a toddler. We had family and friends come to town this weekend to help her celebrate her 2nd birthday, I cannot believe I am the parent of a 2 year old. It really seems like yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital. A lot has happened these past two years and Paul and I are so thankful we have such a wonderful daughter to help remind us of the important things in life!

RIP

We sadly had to put Buck down this weekend. After being diagnosed with diabetes a couple of weeks ago, Buck went from getting better from insulin to bad very quickly. Paul and his sister, Kati, took Buck to the vet yesterday and it was discovered that he had some kind of tear in his intestinal lining, causing bacteria to get into his stomach. It was evident he was in a lot of pain and he would not live long. Buck was put to sleep on 2-18-2012. He was a great dog and will be missed by everyone who knew him...

Snow!!

Last weekend we went to my parents house in the mountains of North Carolina, about 45 minutes from Boone. When we initially planned the trip, we assumed that the winter would be similar to the past two- lots of snow on the ground by now! I had been disappointed because Jefferson has had essentially no snow this winter and I was worried that my plans for Adelyn to see snow for the first time would be thwarted by mother nature. Thankfully that was not the case! We drove up with my parents on Thursday and Adelyn, despite her lack of sleep, was very excited to run around. We hiked and had a nice lunch in town on Friday. The snow came on Saturday. A lot of it (at least for us southerners :)). We bundled up and drove to Mt. Rogers, in Virginia, just to let Adelyn play in some deep snow (probably about 8in or so). With the wind, it was very cold, but she absolutely LOVED it! We had snowball fights and ran around and she was infatuated with brushing the snow off of every surface, watching it fall to the ground. After an hour or so, it got cold (the high, at 8am, in town, was 29 degrees and dropping- with the wind chill, it was probably closer to 0-10 degrees). The snow fell all day and we enjoyed playing around the house after we came home. Here are a few pictures.....

It is hard to believe Adelyn will be 2 on Sunday.... I suppose I will have more to post after her party :)

PS. It was amazing to see Adelyn's hair so straight in the un-humid mountain air! It was so long and she looked like a completely different person... almost.
